It is no doubt that Nokia is building its tablet on 2013 althought they have not made a official announcement yet. In an interview with the Australian Financial Review, Elop conceded that Nokia is interested in the tablet space, but stopped short of offering any hard details on where that interest might lead.
The CEO of Nokia Stephen Elop said: “We haven’t announced tablets at this point, but it is something we are clearly looking at very closely,” “We are studying very closely the market right now as Microsoft has introduced the Surface tablet, so we are trying to learn from that and understand what the right way to participate would be and at what point in time.”
Sources familiar with Nokia’s plans have revealed that Nokia’s tablet will include HDMI and USB ports and a 10.1-inch display that’s similar to Microsoft’s Surface RT screen. Nokia’s tablet will also include cellular connectivity and we understand that AT&T will be one of the first to stock it in the US.
The Finnish company is planning to build a small number of the tablets initially, with a view to potentially building a Windows 8 device later. Nokia’s first tablet will run on an ARM chip with Microsoft’s new Windows RT operating system. Recent reports have suggested that Nokia may unveil its tablet at Mobile World Congress in February.
